Mac OSX is featured with different advanced features like great sound quality and graphics etc. These features have made it most acceptable operating system of this date.
Almost all the Mac hard drives are equipped with GUID partition table scheme whereas PC – formatted hard drive makes use of MBR scheme. When fsck is run to check or fix damaged Mac OSX partitions then it displays error messages. This type of problem is experienced by the users because system expects Unix file system having unique identifier called magic number. When it is unable to search out magic number then the partition is damaged and it cannot be recovered.
Take an example you try to install Boot Camp to get different benefits and usability. Later on you found that one of the OSX partition was not detected. In case the partition of the Mac OSX is damaged but when you try to repair it by using fsck then following message is reported:
"BAD SUPER BLOCK: MAGIC NUMBER WRONG"
Above problem is seen due to damage in the partition. You will unable to access the data after emergence of above error.
Solution
Since above problem cannot be fixed by running fsck command therefore it is necessary to reformat the Mac hard drive to the partition scheme. In order to do so you need to click “Partition’ tab in the ‘Disk Utility; after that you need to select the damaged partitions in the “Volume Scheme”. Finally you need to click on ‘Options’ then you need to select ‘GUID Partition Table’ scheme. Now choose ‘Mac OS Extended’ option from the ‘Format’ drop down menu and then you need to click on ‘Apply’.
After partition has been formatted you need to restore the lost data from the previous backup. In case you have not preserved backup in advance then you need to make use of Mac partition recovery software to scan for the damaged data and retrieve inaccessible files from it.
